The marriage proposal
A few weeks ago I was asked to play at my first marriage proposal. (Well, second proposal counting my own, but the first I’d played at!) Sunday was the big day and I was quite excited despite the relentless rain. I can now tell you all about it, now that the surprise is over…
I met the groom-to-be’s brother and sister in Trosley Wood in between Wrotham and Meopham, Kent, where the scene was being set under umbrellas. The event was being filmed behind a makeshift camouflage a few metres away from the sheltered (thank goodness) picnic area, which had been decorated with sparkly lights.
The groom-to-be and unknowing girlfriend shortly arrived as we crouched in the trees underneath umbrellas. Apparently he had “lost his iPod” and they were looking for it. I then emerged from the brollie to play “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine”, the choice of the groom-to-be, as he got down on one knee. It all went off without a hitch and she said yes!
Such a special moment to share, a very happy couple and a very good choice of music weather considering!
Congratulations to them both!
