China Tour: Day 7, Fuzhou

6:30am is the earliest I have ever gotten up on New Year’s Day. 3 hours sleep and we were off on our way to Fuzhou by bullet train. Fitting a whole orchestra’s worth of luggage on the train was a challenge, especially with other people pushing their way on too – queuing isn’t the norm here! The journey was 6 hours long and took us through some beautiful countryside.

We arrived in Fuzhou very frazzled but relieved to be in the best hotel so far with the Fujian Concert Hall right next door. Pre-concert rehearsal was only 2 hours away so we took the opportunity to rest.

The remainder of the day is a bit of a blur. It was the most challenging concert so far with energy levels being so low, but the audience were great and the concert hall nearly full. I went straight to sleep after the concert, skipping another coach ride to the restaurant for dinner – that’s how tired I was!
