10th wedding anniversary surprise

The plan:

1. Enter restaurant surreptitiously and locate manager.
2. Set up out the back and await nod.
3. Dim lights and play Frankie & Benny musical fanfare.
4. Go to table where couple are finishing meal and play as husband of 10 years gets down on one knee with an eternity ring and waiter presents bouquet of flowers.

This almost happened… to the wrong table! As the booking had been done over the phone, the manager and I had trouble determining which couple in the restaurant was actually celebrating their wedding anniversary. (No one had owned up when claiming their reserved table!) So after calling the husband to check his whereabouts and one of the waiters seeing a man answer his phone, we were all ready to carry out said plan. Thankfully we didn’t, as next minute the husband called again to say that there’d be a slight complication and they’d just finished their meal in the neighbouring restaurant: Restaurant sign confusion! The couple made their way over to Frankie & Benny’s for dessert, the wife thankfully none the wiser, and the rest went to plan: the whole restaurant went silent as I played Salut d’amour and the ring was presented to a delighted wife. I think everyone thought it was an actual proposal as great applause followed!

I do get to share some very special – and random – moments!
